There‘s GF in it

Good roof, good game

Winters in Minnesota (US) are snowy. This puts the structural stability of roofs to the test. GF Building Flow Solutions has taken special precautions for the US Bank Stadium in Minneapolis.

As thousands of football fans flood into the Minnesota Vikings’ stadium, they remain unaware of what is happening 30 meters above their heads. Snow slides down to the edge of the huge, pitched roof into six collecting catch basins, similar to a gutter. Inside is a GF Building Flow Solutions pipe system carrying a solution of hot water and antifreeze. It keeps the gutter warm and ensures that even large amounts of snow can melt, safely draining the water into the sewer system and preventing an accumulation of snow on the roof that could be dangerous. In addition, products from GF Building Flow Solutions have been installed in other areas in or around the stadium, including the water supply and sanitary facilities, as well as under the sidewalks. With these melting systems, these areas remain virtually free of snow and ice.

Let’s be numerate

3’028 liters of a 50% glycol water solution are constantly in the pipe system on the roof.

If connected, the PEX pipes from the melting system would total 21.34 kilometers in length.

The drip pans cover a total surface area of around 5’388 m2, each measuring between 1.5 and 12.2 m2.
