The way we work

The world of work is changing rapidly. Four GF colleagues share insights into their work routines, showing how new work practices not only boost efficiency and creativity, but also foster collaboration and innovation.

Digital tools are a mainstay in office environments around the world. Robotics are streamlining operations in factories, while evolving creative processes are driving innovation across industries. Amid this evolution, a new star is rising: AI. As the landscape of global business transforms, GF is at the forefront of integrating advanced technologies and innovative work styles to stay competitive and create a stimulating environment where its employees can grow and thrive.

Through the experiences of four employees across our divisions, we explore what it means to work efficiently, creatively, digitally and with connection. Their stories show how new approaches are not only improving individual performance and well-being, but are also driving our company toward a promising future.

WORKING CREATIVELY

In her son’s room, Jing Jiao found inspiration for optimizing a complex office process in an unlikely source – a toy. Creativity keeps on inspiring the Beijing-based assistant to the Managing Director of GF Machining Solutions in her daily work.

Location: Beijing (China)

When Jing Jiao saw her son’s wheel of fortune pointer, a colorful toy the 10-year-old loved playing with, it made her think of her office dashboard. “I wanted to make it easier to use and more sustainable, so we would always have access to the previous month’s data and wouldn’t have to print tons of A3 paper every time we had to review the 4DX Dashboard. 4DX stands for the GF Corporate discipline called ‘4 Disciplines of Execution.’ The dashboard in our team serves to review the achievement of our budget targets monthly,“ Jing explains.

“The idea of a rotating pointer came from my son’s toy, a rather unexpected object of inspiration!” Jing built the new board herself, using the original toy and an unused magnetic board that connects the pointer to the board but still allows it to move. “The engineer on our team helped me with the design, and I borrowed a hot glue gun from the production line to complete the assembly.”

“What I find particularly exciting is that I am constantly gaining new perspectives.”

Unleashing potential

Jing loves improving her work environment with creative ideas, both big and small. “To me, creativity means breaking with tradition and unleashing my potential. I find that very fulfilling.” As Assistant to the Managing Director of GF Machining Solutions in Beijing, she organizes management meetings, prepares reports and presentations, and is responsible for cost savings and the maintenance and repair of working materials.

From toy to tool: Jing actively seeks new ideas, tools and methods to optimize processes at work. She gets inspiration from almost everything, even her son’s toys.

“In all processes, I am always on the lookout for new ideas, tools and methods to make the work of our teams more efficient, and to foster collaboration among colleagues.” One of her sources of inspiration is the GF learning platform: “We have access to many training opportunities. If I have questions about how to use a tool, I can find the instructions on the intranet or ask our technical team for help.”

Jing is GF‘s first change agent in Asia. In this role, she brings together colleagues from different departments for “team experiments” to discuss challenges and develop fresh approaches to putting the corporate values into practice. Jing says: “What I find particularly exciting is that I am constantly gaining new perspectives.”
