Did you know? The first electric vehicle was a tricycle!
French electrical engineer Gustave Trouvé was the pioneer of electromobility. In 1881, he exhibited a tricycle that was capable of speeds of up to 12 kph at the International Electrical Exhibition in Paris. This was the first vehicle to feature an electric motor and rechargeable battery and is still considered the prototype of all modern electric cars. The Mitsubishi i-MiEV became the first mass-produced electric car in 2009, followed in 2010 by the Nissan Leaf, which remained the world’s best-selling electric car until 2016. Currently, the best-selling and most popular electric car in the world is the Tesla Model 3.
